Services & Activities

Community services provided by Post 254 are unlimited depending on the post’s ability to fulfill the need. Members of the Johnstown Legion voluntarily offer their services not only to area veterans, but also to area seniors, youth, and handicapped.

Below are the lists of areas, activities and services American Legion Post 254 perform throughout the community from 2016:

Patriotic Services & Activities
  1. Post Accomplishments : 14 Funerals – Color Guard and Rifle Squad
  2. National Recognition Certificate for Disaster Preparedness
  3. International Recognition of Flag Disposal from the Netherlands
  4. Chartered Boy Scout Troup 4020
  5. Provided Halloween Safety Program
  6. Placed American Legion Signs at major Highways 37 and 62.
  7. Provided for Gifts for Yanks over $2600.00
  8. Reached all Time High 208 members.
  9. Provided Entertainment with fireworks and extended finale.
  10. Provided Community Breakfasts allowing SAL to receive percentage of donations
  11. Created a Benevolent fund for veterans.
  12. Created additional resources for BBS and Scholarship Funding
  13. Added security camera’s for monument and out building
  14. Created avenue for depositing discretionary donations for finance officer and trustee.
  15. Placed Activity Funds in Community Activity chairman’s possession
  16. Provided Bingo for another year; Inventories and proper tracking
  17. Provided Escrow fund for Rental contracts
  18. Added Vestibule to front of building
  19. Provided Flag Pole and planters for Bigelow Cemetery
  20. Successfully executed all community programs; Little Miss Firecracker; Easter egg hunt, Halloween Party, Gift for kids, Safety Village,etc
  21. Provided Community Breakfasts
  22. Nominated Teacher of the Year from Searfoss Elementary School
  23. Flag Programs for schools, churches, and various civic organizations
  24. Received “Best Float” award 2016 Fireman’s Parade

Total Hours donated to the community exceeds 8,655 hours

  1. Send 10 Students (High School Juniors) to Buckeye Boys State
  2. Provided Americanism & Government Tests to J.H.S.
  3. Donation to Johnstown High School “Girls Soccer Team”
  4. Donation to Johnstown High School “Big Red Band”
  5. Sponsor Banquet for Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls Stae
  6. The American Legion Post 254 Memorial Scholarship

  1. Sponsor Easter Egg Hunt with costume characters for pictures
  2. Sponsor Safety Village
  3. Sponsor Little Miss Firecracker Pageant
  4. Sponsor 4th of July Fireworks providing entertainment and concessions
  5. Sponsor “Legionnaire of the Year” award at Fireworks
  6. Sponsor “Citizen of the Year” award at Fireworks

  5. Provides a new Bible to the Family of Deceased Members
  6. Provide Color Guard for Local Parades
  7. Raise Flags at Local Football Games
